wigan vs leeds

Wigan Warriors are through to the Super League Grand Final after beating defending champions Leeds Rhinos at the DW stadium 22-12. Despite being the defending Champions, Leeds were in fact the underdogs going into the game with rugby league betting odds.

In a game that saw both Pat Richards, Sam Tomkins and Lee Mossop make one of their final appearances for the Warriors as they prepare more a move to the NRL.

Both teams started well and as you can imagine for a semi-final play-off there wasn’t much between the two teams. Both tied 6-6 at the break. But it was Wigan who came out strongest to score twice in five minutes to take a stranglehold on the game. Both tries came from Leeds mistakes, with the first try came from a Kallum Watkins mistake as he fumbled the ball on his own 20-metre line. The second Carl Ablett who could only palm smith’s grubber kick into the path of Darrell Goulding for the simplest of tries.

Leeds put up a strong fight towards the end of the game with hooker Rob Burrow looking the most dangerous player for the Rhinos, but sloppy defending saw the Warriors’ Charnley score his 42nd try of the season.

Leeds did get a consolation try at the end of the game through Liam Sutcliffe four minutes from time, but it was too little too late and this result sees Wigan face Warrington Wolves who beat Huddersfield Giants in the other Semi-Final.

The Grand Final will be played at Old Trafford this Sat 5th Oct
