If you’re one of those people who plans to experience a few more thrills next year, why not fulfill your resolution by attending some of the most exhilarating motorsport events on offer? Whether conveniently local or distant enough to warrant a weekend away, there is no better way to break up the humdrum routine than to lose yourself in a few hours of petrol-headed excitement.

Here’s our pick of the five most unmissable experiences of the coming year,

  1. Autosport International Racing Car Show 2014

Possibly the one definitive motor racing event in the UK, this all-inclusive event runs from 9th to 12th January and encompasses virtually the entire spectrum of motorsports. With celebrity guests, awe-inspiring showroom displays and scores of incredible special features, this event promises to have something for everyone, from the avid Go-Karter to the Formula One nostalgic who has witnessed legends rise and fall.

  1. MAXXIS ACU British Motocross Championship

Eight rounds of nail biting off-road biking culminate on 16th March next year in Saltash, Cornwall. The competition has travelled the length and breadth of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and this final leg sees entrants battling around a challenging dirt track for the British title. Dates for the next competition beginning later in the year are yet to be announced, so keep an eye!

  1. FIA World Endurance Championship

With its first round hosted by Silverstone on 20th April, the UK leg of this challenging event involves races of at least six hours in length, the heritage of which stretches right the way back to 1905. A true test of the quality of the cars and the fortitude of the racers involved, this truly is a sport for heroes.

  1. Silverstone Classic

We’re heading back to Northamptonshire for “The World’s Biggest Motor Racing Festival” now. July 25th – 27th sees Silverstone Classic 2014 burst onto the tracks. Visitors are treated to a colourful and action-packed three-day weekend featuring white-knuckle races, live music (previous performers have included Adam Ant, Santana and The Pussycat Dolls), car shows, flyovers and wonderful festival-style refreshments.

  1. The Goodwood Revival

A very classy affair, the Goodwood Revival runs from the 12th to the 14th of September next year and pays homage to the golden days of motor racing. Based just outside Chichester, Goodwood was once ranked alongside Silverstone as one of the most iconic racing tracks in the country. The event pits classic racing cars and single-seaters from the 40s, 50s and 60s against each other in a truly nostalgic look back across the decades. There are also celebrity races and a chance to bask in the glory of some of the most incredible machines history has known.
