Gareth Bale

Despite the lack of progress, Real Madrid are still in firm negotiations to reach an agreement with Tottenham for the signature of Gareth Bale. However doubt has been cast recently after club president Florentino Perez stated the hefty fee demanded by Tottenham is more than they are willing to pay.

Madrid have maintain a very open campaign to lure Bale to the Bernabeu this summer, with many players (both past and present) from the club speaking publicly about their desire to see the Welshman represent the club at the Bernabeu this season.

Having splashed out £80M on Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2009, the £86M thought to be asked by Levy would see the world transfer record broken, and with that in mind it does seem like a lot of money “all things considered.”

There are still a good three weeks left for both parties to come to an agreement and close sources to the player have insisted talks are continuing over a summer switch.

The complications in the deal seem to be what Tottenham will get in return for selling their prize asset, however it would seem that in order for Levy to let Bale leave the club, Real are likely to offer one of their rising stars along with a hefty sum of cash.

Many questions have been raised regarding the valuation of Gareth Bale. But one thing is for sure, his ability to accelerate through the gears from picking the ball in an unthreatening position and penetrating an attack from a standstill is for me what makes Gareth bale stand out from the crowd. He is simply unplayable in situations like that and once on the edge of the box, give him the slightest bit of space and he will punish you.

Bale is the type of player who can turn games around in one piece of genius, Tottenham have become over reliant on Bale in recent years and it will be interesting to see how they react should a deal materialise for the winger.
